LA 불교대학(Korean American Buddhist Academy)​은 누구나 부처님의 가르침을 배우고 수행하며, 지혜와 자비를 삶 속에서 실천할 수 있는 열린 불교 교육 공동체입니다.

본교는 대한불교조계종의 전통과 불교의 보편적 가르침을 바탕으로 체계적인 불교 교리 교육, 경전 연구, 수행, 선(禪)명상, 불교 문화 교육 및 온라인 학습 과정을 제공합니다. 이를 통해 학생들이 불교에 대한 올바른 이해를 갖추고, 배운 가르침을 일상생활 속에서 실천하며 스스로의 삶을 성찰하고 성장할 수 있도록 돕습니다.

또한 우리는 불교 교육이 개인의 수행에만 머무르지 않고 타인과 사회를 위한 보살행으로 이어져야 한다고 믿습니다. 지혜와 자비, 바른 윤리의식을 갖추고 이웃과 공동체에 봉사하는 불자를 양성하며, 미래의 불교 교육과 포교를 이끌어갈 인재를 키우는 것을 중요한 사명으로 삼고 있습니다.

LA 불교대학은 로스앤젤레스 지역사회를 넘어 지역과 세대, 문화와 언어의 경계를 넘어 부처님의 가르침을 전하고자 합니다. 대면 교육과 온라인 교육을 통해 세계 어느 곳에서든 마음을 내는 사람이 불법(佛法)을 배우고 수행할 수 있는 인연을 만들어 갑니다.

궁극적으로 우리는 학생들이 부처님의 가르침을 깊이 이해하고, 수행을 통해 지혜와 자비를 기르며, 보살의 길을 삶으로 실천하는 불자로 성장하도록 돕고자 합니다. 이를 통해 개인의 평화와 행복을 넘어 서로를 존중하고 돕는 평화롭고 조화로운 사회를 이루는 데 기여하는 것이 LA 불교대학의 사명입니다.

Korean American Buddhist Academy is an open and welcoming Buddhist educational community where anyone can study the teachings of the Buddha, deepen their spiritual practice, and cultivate wisdom and compassion in everyday life.

Rooted in the teachings and traditions of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism and the universal values of the Dharma, the Academy provides systematic education in Buddhist doctrine, scripture, Dharma practice, Seon meditation, Buddhist culture, and online learning. Through these programs, we seek to help students develop a sound understanding of Buddhism and integrate Buddhist teachings and practice into their daily lives.

We believe that Buddhist education should extend beyond personal spiritual development and lead naturally to Bodhisattva action—compassionate service for the benefit of others and society. Our mission is therefore to cultivate practitioners who embody wisdom, compassion, ethical conduct, and service, while also nurturing future Buddhist educators and leaders who can carry the Dharma forward.

From the Los Angeles community to people across geographic, cultural, linguistic, and generational boundaries, we seek to make the Buddha’s teachings accessible wherever there is a sincere wish to learn and practice. Through both in-person and online education, we strive to create opportunities for people everywhere to encounter, study, and live the Dharma.

Ultimately, Korean American Buddhist Academy exists to help students deepen their understanding of the Buddha’s teachings, cultivate wisdom and compassion through practice, and embody the Bodhisattva path in their daily lives. In doing so, we aspire to contribute not only to individual spiritual growth, but also to a more peaceful, compassionate, and harmonious society.
